Padres recall OF Jaff Decker from Triple-A Tucson and place SS Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list

Cabrera was leading the National League in stolen bases

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Diego Padres today announced that they have recalled outfielder Jaff Decker from Triple-A Tucson and that shortstop Everth Cabrera has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain (retroactive to June 17). Decker will be active for the club's 12:40 p.m. game today against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Decker, 23, is in his second stint with the Padres this season. He was recalled for the first time in his career on June 12 and optioned June 14, but did not appear in a game. In 63 games with Tucson this season, the left-handed hitter has batted .260 (51-for-196) with 10 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 20 RBI, 36 runs scored, 37 walks and a .379 on-base percentage. Originally signed by the Padres as a supplemental-round selection (42nd overall) in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, he has hit .264 (444-for-1683) with 93 doubles, 13 triples, 66 home runs, 284 RBI, 345 runs scored, 373 walks and a .403 on-base percentage in 487 games played over parts of six minor leagues seasons (2008-13) in the Padres organization.

Cabrera, 26, was leading the National League in stolen bases and hitting .305 (84-for-275) with 37 runs, 11 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 24 RBI, 31 stolen bases and a .382 on-base percentage in 69 games. Cabrera had appeared in Padres first 69 games of the season. In parts of five seasons with San Diego, he is hitting .254 (323-for-1270) with 168 runs, 54 doubles, 19 triples, nine home runs, 101 RBI and 112 stolen bases in 365 games. Cabrera was selected by the Padres from the Rockies in the first round of the 2008 Rule 5 Draft.
