Red Sox Wives to hold children's book drive at Fenway Park June 28
Books to benefit moms and children via Room to Grow
BOSTON -- The Red Sox Wives will host a children’s book drive at Fenway Park on Friday, June 28 before the 7:10 p.m. Red Sox-Toronto game. The book collection will benefit Room to Grow, the non-profit organization which seeks to enrich the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development.
Fans are asked to bring children’s books appropriate for kids 0-3 years old. The organization has a special need for board books in both Spanish and English. There will be a table located outside of each Fenway Park gate from the time gates open at 5:40 p.m. through the 2nd inning of the game.
“Room to Grow works with low-income mothers from before their child is born until the baby turns three, providing them with support from social workers as well as the much-needed baby items for their child,” said Kelli Pedroia, wife of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. She had the idea to hold the book collection. “When we learned of the organization’s need for children’s books, we thought rallying Red Sox fans to donate books at the ballpark was one small way we could help.”
