Mariners release catcher Kelly Shoppach

Shoppach was designated for assignment on June 14

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today that the team has placed catcher Kelly Shoppach on waivers for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release.

 

 

 

Shoppach, 33, was designated for assignment on June 14 when the Mariners signed free agent catcher Henry Blanco.

 

Shoppach hit .196 (21x107) in 35 games with the Mariners this season with 7 doubles, 3 home runs and 9 RBI with 12 walks and 45 strikeouts.
