Mariners activate OF Franklin Gutierrez from disabled list
Michael Morse placed on 15-day disabled list and AAA OF Eric Thames designated for assignment
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today the following roster moves:
- OF Franklin Gutierrez recalled from rehabilitation assignment at AAA Tacoma & activated from 60-day Disabled List.
- OF Michael Morse placed on the 15-day disabled list (retro to 6/21) with a strained right quad muscle.
- AAA OF Eric Thames designated for assignment.
Gutierrez (#21) will be available for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game at the Oakland Athletics.
Gutierrez, 30, has been on the disabled list since April 23 with a right hamstring strain. In 22 games while on rehab assignment with the Rainiers, Gutierrez hit .232 (22x95) with 17 runs scored, 6 doubles, 3 home runs and 17 RBI. Prior to going on the DL, Gutierrez hit .259 (14x54) with 4 home runs (3 leadoff HR) and 10 RBI in 16 games.
Morse, 31, has seen limited action since suffering a right quad injury May 28 vs. the Padres, appearing in 11 of the Mariners last 23 games (at DH, 1B or PH). For the season Morse is batting .251 (52x207) with 11 home runs and 23 RBI in 56 games.
Thames, 26, hit .295 (64x217) with 15 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs and 33 RBI in 57 games for AAA Tacoma. He is currently on the minor league disabled list with a left wrist laceration. Thames was acquired by Seattle on July 31, 2012 from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Steve Delabar. The Mariners now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Thames' contract.
