Padres recall LHP Tommy Layne from AAA Tucson and option RHP Miles Mikolas to Tucson

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled left-handed pitcher Tommy Layne from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.
 
Layne, 28, is joining the Padres for the third time this season. He was recalled from Triple-A Tucson for his second stint with the Padres on June 1 and optioned June 14. In six games total for San Diego this year, he has gone 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA (1 ER, 5.2 IP) and four strikeouts against no walks. The left-hander was recalled for the first time on May 24 and worked in one game for San Diego before being optioned back to Tucson on May 26. In 24 relief outings total for Tucson this season, he is 1-3 with a 4.03 ERA (10 ER, 22.1 IP) and 16 strikeouts against 14 walks.
 
Mikolas, 24, did not appear in Sunday's game with the Padres after being recalled prior to the game. In 32 games for Tucson this year, he has gone 2-1 with 14 saves, a 3.57 ERA (14 ER, 35.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts against 12 walks. The right-hander made his Major League debut for the Padres last season, compilining a 2-1 record with a 3.62 ERA (13 ER, 32.1 IP) and 23 strikeouts against 15 walks in 25 relief appearances.
