Mariners recall Dustin Ackley from AAA Tacoma

Franklin Gutierrez placed on 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced tonight the following roster moves:

• OF Dustin Ackley recalled from AAA Tacoma. • OF Franklin Gutierrez placed on the 15-day disabled list (retro to 6/24) with a strained right hamstring.

Ackley (#13) will be available for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game at the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ackley, 25, hit .365 (38x104) with 8 doubles, 2 home runs and 14 RBI in 25 games with the Rainiers after being optioned to the minor leagues on May 26. A second baseman for the bulk of his Major League career, Ackley made the transition to the outfield with Tacoma making 12 starts in the outfield (CF - 9, LF - 3). He recorded at least one hit in 21 of 25 games with Tacoma, including 12 multi-hit games.

In 45 games with the Mariners, Ackley batted .205 (32x156) with 4 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI.

Gutierrez, 30, appeared in two games (June 22-23) after being activated from the disabled list on Saturday (June 22). He was on the disabled list from April 23-June 21 with the same injury (right hamstring strain). In 18 games this season Gutierrez is batting .267 (16x60) with 4 doubles, 5 home runs and 11 RBI.
