Indians reinstate SS Asdrubal Cabrera; designate INF John McDonald for assignment

BALTIMORE, MD - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Reinstated SS ASDRUBAL CABRERA (right quad strain) from the 15-day disabled list.

Designated INF JOHN McDONALD for assignment.

Cabrera, 27, has been sidelined since suffering the injury on June 3 at Yankee Stadium while running out a 5th-inning ground ball (placed on 15-day DL June 4). For the season, he is hitting .254 (52-205) with 28 runs, 18 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 25RBI in 53 games. In 35 contests since April 18 he has carried a .299 avg. (46-154) and an .862 OPS figure (.351OB/.511SLG). Cabrera is scheduled to be the Indians' starting shortstop for tonight's tilt in Baltimore, while riding a 33-game errorless streak.

McDonald, 38, was acquired from Pittsburgh on June 10 and appeared in 8 games (2 starts) at third base for Cleveland following the trade, scoring a pair of runs. The past two weeks marked McDonald's second stint with the Indians organization, as he spent his first 7 big league seasons with the club from 1999-2004 after being selected by Cleveland in the 12th round of the 1996 First-Year Player Draft.
