Local veteran to throw first pitch at Miami Marlins game

TAMPA, Fla.(June 28, 2013) - Army veteran Lenin Hernandez, from Wellington, Fla., will throw the first pitch at the Miami Marlins home game on Monday, July 1 at Marlins Park in Miami, Fla. Hernandez was invited by Outback Steakhouse® and Operation Homefront to officially kick off the game as the Miami Marlins take on the San Diego Padres. Outback Steakhouse® is the presenting sponsor of the Marlins "South Florida Heroes Mondays."

Hernandez, a native of Miami, was deployed to Iraq two times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served five years at 3rd Infantry Division and three years at the Florida National Guard. He was injured in combat in Iraq and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. He currently participates with Operation Homefront as a volunteer. Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and Wounded Warriors. Since 2010, Outback Steakhouse® has raised more than $2 Million for Operation Homefront.
