Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League Celebrates 25th Season

JP Arencibia joins 1,000 children and youth at Stan Wadlow Park for Opening Day

On Thursday July 4th, the BLUE JAYS BASEBALL ACADEMY will launch its 25th season of Rookie League at Stan Wadlow Park in East York, Ontario.

Through a partnership with Toronto Community Housing and Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada, Rookie League introduces children and youth living in under-resourced communities to the sport of baseball. This year-round program is offered at no cost to participants and their families. Rookie League will reach 5,000 children in over 90 communities in all provinces and one territory.

The Toronto program will serve 1,000 children and youth from more than 50 neighbourhoods. Blue Jays players Brett Lawrie, Rajai Davis, Brandon Morrow and J.P. Arencibia serve as Honorary Division Captains and manager John Gibbons as Honorary Coach. Arencibia will be on hand to welcome participants to Opening Day, offer encouraging words and baseball tips.

To start the season, participants will receive Blue Jays Baseball Academy gear and Rawlings baseball equipment. After taking part in a baseball skills development session, the boys and girls will enjoy an Opening Day barbeque.
