Pirates sign 28th round selection Jerry Mulderig

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed RHP Jerry Mulderig (6-4/205, Rider University), the club's 28th-round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Scouting.

Mulderig went 3-2 with a 4.12 ERA (19.2ip/9er) and 13 strikeouts in 11 appearances (four starts) as a junior this year at Rider University in New Jersey. He is the highest draft pick from Rider since Scot Knazek was selected in the 15th round by the Angels in 2006. Mulderig also earned first-team All-League honors as a second baseman and third-team All-League honors as a pitcher during his senior year in high school (2010).

Mulderig has been assigned to the GCL Pirates of the Gulf Coast League (Rookie).

The Pirates have now signed 24 players from this year's draft.
