Mariners Recall LHP Lucas Luetge, DFA RHP Jeremy Bonderman (7-8-13)

Luetge will be available for tonight's game versus the Boston Red Sox.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today the following roster moves:

  • LHP Lucas Luetge recalled from AAA Tacoma.
  • RHP Jeremy Bonderman designated for assignment

Luetge, 26, will be in uniform (#44) for tonight's 7:10 pm game versus the Boston Red Sox. The Mariners are currently listed at TBA for Thursday's starting pitcher in the series finale vs. the Red Sox.

This will be Luetge's third stint with Seattle this season (April 1-9, May 1-25). In 11 appearances with the Mariners this season is 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA (9 ER, 11.1 IP). He has held opponents scoreless in in 7 of 11 appearances in 2013. Used for a career-high 3.0 innings on two different occasions: April 9 (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER) and May 21 (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER).

In 22 games with the Rainiers, Luetge was 0-0 with 1 save, striking out 45 in 31.0 innings while allowing just 16 walks. He did not allow a run over his last 5 outings with Tacoma (7.1 IP, 10 strikeouts).

Bonderman, 30, was 1-3 with a 4.93 ERA in seven starts with the Mariners since being selected from Tacoma June 2. From June 7-23 (4 starts) he posted a 1-0, 1.42 mark (25.1 IP, 4 ER), but is 0-2, 10.80 (8.1 IP, 12 R, 10 ER) in two starts since.

Bonderman went 2-4 with a 4.52 ERA (32 ER, 63.2 IP) in 11 starts with AAA Tacoma. Bonderman was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for April 29-May 5. Bonderman signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on Jan. 9, 2013.

Prior to June 2, Bonderman had not appeared in the Majors since Oct. 1, 2010 (with Detroit).

Seattle now has 10 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Bonderman to the minors.
