A's select RHP Gray from Sacramento; option RHP Straily to Sacramento

The Oakland Athletics have selected right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned right-handed pitcher Dan Straily to Sacramento, the team announced today.

Gray was 8-5 with a Pacific Coast League leading 2.81 ERA in 16 games with the River Cats and will be making his Major League debut. He also leads the PCL in strikeouts (107), is tied for second in wins and ranks fifth in innings pitched (102.1). Gray, 23, was the A's first round selection and the 18th pick overall in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He is 15-15 with a 3.45 ERA in 49 games, all starts, over three seasons in the minors.

Straily tossed 6.1 innings and earned the win last night and is now 6-2 with a 4.28 ERA in 14 games over four stints with the A's this year. That includes a 5-0 mark and 2.83 ERA over his last nine starts. The five-game winning streak is a career-high and the longest by an American League rookie this season. Straily, 24, is also 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA in four starts with Sacramento.
