Phillies Minor League Review July 1-7

Pitcher - RHP, Severino Gonzalez, Lakewood... 2 starts... 2-0, 3.18 ERA (4 ER, 11.1 IP), 5 H, BB, 14 SO... Gonzalez earns POTW honors for the 1st time this year... In his 1st start this week 7/2 vs Delmarva he retired all 18 batters (9 SO) he faced in 6.0 IP... Gonzalez needed only 65 pitches (51 strikes) to get through 6.0 innings... He started the season in CLR but was transferred to LWD in late June in order to get more starts... Gonzalez appeared in 12 G (1 GS) with CLR and has appeared in 3 G (all starts) with LWD... For the season, the 6-foot-2, 155 pound right-hander is 3-1, 1.90 ERA (9 ER, 42.2 IP) with 53 SO to only 4 BB between both LWD and CLR... RHH are hitting a combined .134 (13-97) off Gonzalez this season between both clubs and just .065 (2-31) at Lakewood... Gonzalez spent his first 2 seasons of pro ball with the Venezuelan Summer League Phillies (R). His career numbers to date read as follows: 46 G, 18 GS, 11-5, 1.82 ERA (36 ER, 178.0 IP), 168 SO, 13 BB...The 20-year-old Gonzalez, a native of Santiago, Panama, was signed by the Phillies and Allan Lewis as an amateur free agent on April 27, 2011.

Player - 1B, Logan Pierce, Williamsport... 6 G... Batted .423 (11-26), 4 R, 4 2B, HR, 7 RBI, BB... Pierce was a 15th round selection (451 overall) in June out of Troy University in Troy, Alabama... He currently leads the Cutters in AVG (.338), OBP (.390) and hits (24)...Pierce was a 3-year starter at the school where he was managed by his father, Bobby Pierce... Pierce was signed by Mike Stauffer.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division...46-45 3rd place... 2-6 for the week... Lehigh Valley ended their week on the road and in the midst of a 5-game losing streak that equaled a season-high... LV was outscored 28-13 in those 5 games... 2B Cesar Hernandez was named the IL Player of the Week. Hernandez hit .375 (12-32), 4 R, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 SB... His 12 hits led the IL and additionally the 23-year-old has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 G (.450 (18-for-40).... Hernandez is the 1st LV player to take home the honor this season, and just the 6th all time... OF Leandro Castro batted .346 (9-26), 4 R, 2B, 3 RBI, SB and hit safely in 6 of 7 games... 1B Cody Overbeck batted .316 (6-19), 2B while slugging his 15th HR of the season... INF Freddy Galvis had 8 H including a HR... 3B Cody Asche has hit safely in 13 of his last 16 contests (.345, 20-58) and chipped in with 6 H this week... LHP Greg Smith (W, 6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO) was called upon for an emergency start in a doubleheader... LHP's Cesar Jimenez (3.1 IP, 4 SO) & Mauricio Robles (2.2 IP, 4 BB, SO) both made 3 scoreless appearances in relief... Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division...38-50, 6th place... 3-4 for the week... 3B Maikel Franco batted .333 (8-24), 2B, HR (20), 3 RBI... Franco his hit safely in 16 of 17 games (.423) since being promoted to Reading and has struck out only 3 times in 71 AB... 2B Albert Cartwright batted .308 (8-26), 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 SB... OF Derrick Mitchell went 7-15 at the plate (.467), 7 R, 2 HR, 3 SB & 5 BB... OF Kelly Dugan made his double-A debut after his promotion from Clearwater and picked up his first 2 hits with Reading this week... RHP David Buchanan made 2 starts going 1-1, 2.51 ERA (4 ER, 14.1 IP), 7 SO... In his first outing this week Buchanan went 8.1 innings allowing only 1 R in a REA victory over Richmond... Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division...First Half - 35-33, 4th place... Second Half - 7-7, T-3rd place... 3-2 for the week... 1B Chris Serritella batted .444 (8-18) 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR... Over his last 17 G Serritella is 18 for his last 53 at the plate (.340)... OF Cameron Perkins was activated from the DL and hit a walk-off single in his first game back... His week included a 2B and a HR in 3 G... OF Aaron Altherr his league leading 26th double of the year and belted his 9th HR of the season... LHP Mario Hollands earned Player of the Month honors for June and made 1 start this week (ND, 8.1 IP, 7 H, ER, 6 SO... In 13 G (9 GS) with Clearwater this season Hollands has a 1.59 ERA (11 ER, 62.1 IP) with 52 SO to only 11 BB... LHP Hoby Milner picked up a win in his only start going 7.0 innings, 4 H, 0 R, 3 SO... RHP Ryan O'Sullivan picked up his 5th SV of the season, only allowing 1 H in 3.2 innings of work this week... LHP Nick Hernandez made 1 start (ND, 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 SO)... RHP Ken Giles was activated from the DL and of the 6 outs recorded in his 2.0 innings of work, 4 were via strikeout... Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League North Division - First Half-26-41, 7th place... Second Half - 6-12, 7th place... 3-4 for the week... DH/INF Willie Carmona continues to swing the bat well, batting .357 (10-28), 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI... Carmona is batting .359 (47-131) since 5/26... OF Brian Pointer batted .316 (6-19), 2B, HR... 2B Angelo Mora batted .300 (9-30) 6 R, 2 2B, 3 SB... OF Larry Greene had 7 H including his 2nd HR of the year... 2B Alejandro Villalodos went 7 -19 at the plate (.368)... SS Jonathan Roof was on fire in 3 G this week batting .429 (6-14), 2 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI... On Sunday Roof went 4-5 at the plate with 6 RBI... RHP Severino Gonzalez earned Player of the Week honors as he continues his impressive work on the hill... Gonzalez was perfect in 6.0 innings (9 SO) of work before Lakewood went to the bullpen... Gonzalez won both of his starts this week going 11.1 innings, 5 H, 4 ER, BB, 14 SO... RHP Delvi Francisco made 2 scoreless relief appearances going 3.1 innings with 6 SO... RHP Geoff Broussard picked up a win in relief making 2 scoreless appearances in 3.2 innings of work... RHP Shane Watson made 1 start going 5.0 innings, 2 ER, 5 SO... RHP Chris Burgess (2013 26th round selection) picked up his 1st SV this season... RHP Steven Inch picked up his 10th SV before earning a promotion to CLR this week.

Williamsport CrossCutters - New York Penn League Pinckney Division - 11-7, 2nd place... 4-2 for the week...3B Logan Pierce (2013 15th round selection) earned Player of the Week honors batting .423 (11-26), 4 2B, HR, 7 RBI... 2B Andrew Pullin batted .364 (8-22), 2B, 3B, SB... OF Dylan Cozens batted .300 (6-20) 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI... OF Jiandido Tromp went 6-16 (.375) with 2 doubles this week... 3B Zach Green had 6 H, this week, 5 of which were doubles... Green has 12 doubles in only 19 games to lead the league. Green also leads the league in SLG% (.648) and total bases (46)... RHP Mitch Gueller remained unbeaten (3-0) in 4 starts this season as he picked up another W this week... RHP Shane Martin (2013 9th round selection) picked up his first professional win 7/5... Martin is a 6-foot-4 product of Southwestern Oklahoma State... RHP Felix Santos picked up 2 SV in 3.1 scoreless innings of work... LHP Rob Marcello (2013 17th round selection) picked up his first professional SV as he appeared in 2 G tossing 3.1 scoreless innings.

Gulf Coast League Phillies - 3-8, 4th place... 1-3 for the week... Because of torrential rain in the area the GCL Phillies were limited to just 4 G this week... SS J.P. Crawford (2013 1st round) had a hit in every game and batted .471 (8-17), 3 R, 2 BB, 2 SB... 3B Jan Hernandez (2013 3rd round) belted his first professional HR... RHP Feliberto Sanchez recorded his 2nd W of the year going 5.0 innings allowing just 1 R... Through his first 13.0 innings of work Sanchez has a 0.69 ERA... 2013 draft picks LHP Will Morris (24th round) RHP Matt Soren (19th round) RHP Matt Southard (28th round) & LHP Cody Forsythe (25th round) all combined for 8.1 scoreless innings of work.
