Mariners recall RHP Erasmo Ramirez, option RHP Carter Capps to AAA Tacoma

Ramirez will be starting pitcher in today's game versus Boston Red Sox

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today the following roster moves:

  • RHP Erasmo Ramirez recalled from AAA Tacoma.
  • RHP Carter Capps optioned to AAA Tacoma.

Ramirez, 23, will be the Mariners starting pitcher in today's 12:40 pm game versus the Boston Red Sox.

Ramirez was 3-3, 3.09 in 7 starts with the Tacoma Rainiers after joining the AAA club on June 2. In 43.2 innings pitched, he allowed 43 hits while striking out 42 and walking only 14. He was the winning pitcher in his last start, July 5 at Salt Lake City.

Ramirez also made one start with AA Jackson (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER) but did not record a decision.

Ramirez was sidelined by right elbow soreness at the end of Spring Training and missed nearly two months.

Capps, 22, is 2-2, 6.37 in 33 relief appearances this season. He did not allow a run in 1.1 innings pitched last night (2 BB, 1 HBP), snapping a string of allowing runs in 6 consecutive games. Since June 16 (7 G overall), he is 0-1 with a 17.18 ERA (7.1 IP, 16 H, 14 ER, 5 BB, 8 SO).
