Hall of Famer Tom Seaver named Grand Marshal of MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Chevrolet

Event to be Nationally Televised on MLB Network. Mets Legends, MLB Mascots, PEOPLE Magazine "Tribute for Heroes" Winners, and Marching Band from Rockaway Park, Queens Scheduled to Appear

Baseball Hall of Famer Tom Seaver will serve as Grand Marshal of the ninth annual MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Chevrolet on Tuesday, July 16. The marching band from the Scholar's Academy in Rockaway Park, Queens, a community devastated by Sandy, will lead the procession. Following the band, Seaver will lead the MLB All-Stars across New York City's 42nd Street in open-air Chevrolet vehicles prior to the 2013 MLB All-Star Game. David Wright will ride the Gray Line tour bus decorated in his honor along with a number of New York Mets legends including MLB Network analyst Al Leiter, Mike Piazza, Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry.

The event, which is free for fans, will begin at 1 p.m. ET and is scheduled to feature the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Stars riding through Midtown Manhattan in all-new 2014 Silverado trucks. The players will start at Bryant Park on 42nd Street & Sixth Avenue and proceed on an approximately 80,000 square foot red carpet past Grand Central Terminal and ending at 42nd Street and Third Avenue. Jim Leyland and Bruce Bochy, the AL and NL All-Star team managers, will lead their teams down the carpet in Chevrolet Camaro convertibles.

MLB Network will telecast the event nationally at 3:00 p.m. ET, with a simulcast available on MLB.com. MLB Network will air an abbreviated version at 7:30 p.m. ET. Greg Amsinger and Harold Reynolds will host the event from Bryant Park for MLB Network with Alanna Rizzo conducting interviews and providing reports along the route.

The following street closures will be implemented at approximately 10:00 a.m. and will be lifted at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 for the All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Chevrolet:

  • 40th Street between Sixth Avenue and Madison Avenue
  • Sixth Avenue between 40th Street and 42nd Street
  • 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and First Avenue
  • 42nd Street Exit at the FDR Drive

In addition, the 30 winners of the Major League Baseball and PEOPLE Magazine "Tribute for Heroes" campaign, which honors active military and veterans, will take part in the celebration. These brave men and women were selected as part of a search for military heroes with incredible stories. Each winner represents one of the 30 MLB Clubs.

A number of MLB mascots, including Mr. Met, will be along the route interacting with fans. With the outcome of the All-Star Game again determining which League will have home field advantage in the World Series, the World Series Trophy crafted by Tiffany & Company will be on display as part of the MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Chevrolet.

As part of the ongoing commitment by Major League Baseball to environmental sustainability, MLB is again working with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to implement measures to reduce the event's carbon missions and make it more environmentally friendly. For the MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show, the players will be traveling on a red carpet made from 100 percent recycled fiber and produced by electricity produced by 100 percent renewable wind and solar power. Chevrolet will be providing all-new Flex-Fuel Chevy Silverado vehicles for the players and their families.

Additionally, an all-star team of fashion and beauty experts have signed on to dress a group of players' wives exclusively for the event. Fashion houses Nicole Miller and 4 Collective will provide dresses and event attire, Bobbi Brown's Professional Makeup Artists will provide special occasion makeup applications, and Deborah Lippmann's Top Manicurists will provide Signature Deborah Lippmann manicures. Additional items will include MLB licensees Tommy Bahama providing fragrance, candles and dopp kits and Vineyard Vines providing a commemorative tote bag, as well as accessories by jewelry designer Helen Ficalora.
