Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation to hold youth baseball clinics during the All-Star break
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation will hold three youth baseball clinics during this week's All-Star break starting tomorrow. The clinics will include Dodger alumni and pre-selected children at three of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Dodger Dreamfields. The children will each receive a Dodger hat and receive instruction from Dodger alumni in hitting, base-running, fielding and throwing.
Tomorrow, Dodger alumni Wes Parker, Bobby Castillo, Kenny Landreaux and Derrel Thomas will conduct a clinic at Pecan Recreation Center, 127 S. Pecan St. in Los Angeles. "Sweet" Lou Johnson, Billy Ashley, Tim Leary and Al Downing will lead a clinic on Wednesday, July 17 at Algin Sutton Recreation Center, 8800 S. Hoover St. in Los Angeles. This series of clinics concludes Thursday, July 18 at Montecito Heights Recreation Center, 4545 Homer St. in Los Angeles, where Lee Lacy, Mickey Hatcher, Dennis Powell and Al Ferrara will conduct the final clinic. Check-in and registration for all clinics will start at 2:30 p.m. and each clinic will begin at 3:00 p.m.
The Dodgers Dreamfields program is one of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation's cornerstone programs and its goal is to refurbish baseball field in lower income communities so that youngsters can learn the game of baseball in a clean, safe and organized environment while learning the importance of playing team sports and key characteristics like sportsmanship, ethics and fair play. In partnership with the LA84 Foundation, City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks and the Los Angeles County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation has completed 28 Dreamfields since the inception of the program. The investment in these new Dreamfields varies depending on each location's need, but typically include: upgrades to the backstops, the addition of roofs over the dugouts, bench upgrades, irrigation improvements, re-grading to insure smooth and consistent playing surfaces, renovation of field turf or, where necessary, installation of new sod and a new scoreboard. We have four (4) additionally dedications planned for 2013 with a long term goal of completing 50 Dreamfields.
