Seattle Mariners win awards for in-park video presentation

Two Golden Matrix Awards presented at IDEA Annual Conference in Montreal

The Seattle Mariners in-game video presentation on Safeco Field's MarinersVision, the new HD video screen, has received two awards for "artistic and technical excellence" from the professional association for the event presentation industry.

The Information Display and Entertainment Association bestowed two Golden Matrix Awards on "My Oh My Productions", the Seattle Mariners video and graphics department, at the recent IDEA annual conference in Montreal. The awards are for "Best Open" and "Best Overall Display in Major League Baseball."

The video that won for "Best Open" is shown on MarinersVision at each home game as the team takes the field. Rapid clips of Mariners players and game action is intercut with iconic Seattle scenes including the skyline, Hammering Man at the Seattle Art Museum, the Monorail and Space Needle, set to a customized Mariners version of the #1 hit "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore/Ryan Lewis.

The other Golden Matrix Award, for "Best Overall Display in MLB," is presented each year to the team with the best in-game presentation including live camera work, public address announcer, video graphics, interactive features and stats.

"There is nothing better than being recognized by your peers for outstanding work," said Ben Mertens, Director of Productions. "IDEA is the premier conference in our industry and to receive multiple awards is an honor."

IDEA is the professional association for the event presentation industry. Founded in 1982, IDEA members represent teams, facilities, manufacturers and suppliers worldwide and include professional baseball, basketball, football, hockey, racing, soccer, arenas, convention centers, stadiums and universities.

IDEA's Golden Matrix Awards recognize excellence and creativity in several categories of electronic display production including artistic and technical excellence and programming of large screen video and matrix displays.

Since 1989, the Mariners have won 25 Golden Matrix Awards, the most by any other organization. The next closest is Ohio State University with 24 awards.
