OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's have acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder Grant Green, the club announced during tonight's game.

Callaspo, 30, is an eight-year Major League veteran with a .273 career batting average. The 5-9, 225-pound Venezuela native was hitting .252 (74-for-294) with 13 doubles, five home runs and 36 RBI in 86 games with the Angels this season. He's batting .262 against left-handed pitchers and .149 vs. right-handers.

The A's new addition has played solely at third base this season. However, he has played 217 games at second base, 32 games at shortstop and 14 games in the outfield during his playing career, making stops at Arizona (2006-07), Kansas City (2008-10) and Los Angeles (2010-2013).

Callaspo (pronounced Ky-AWS-po) twice batted at least .300 for the Royals, posting a .305 figure in 74 games in 2008 and hitting .300 with 41 doubles, eight triples, 11 homers and 73 RBI in 155 games in 2009.

Green, who was hitting .325 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 87 games with Triple-A Sacramento, was recalled by Oakland July 8 and went 0 for 15 in five games in his Major League debut. All five of his appearances were starts at second base against left-handed starters and he committed three errors.
