RBI World Series results: Detroit and Harrisburg teams split opening games of 2013 RBI World Series

Tournament Play in the Junior and Senior Baseball Divisions of the 2013 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series began today in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. 

  1. At Neiman Field #1 today at 9:45 a.m. CT, Detroit Arsenal RBI (1-0) defeated Harrisburg RBI (0-1) in a comeback victory by the score of 4-3. 
  1. At Parade Stadium, Harrisburg RBI (1-0) defeated Detroit PAL RBI (0-1) by the score of 4-1. 

Below are some highlights:

  1. Detroit Arsenal RBI vs. Harrisburg RBI

Cuts Like A Knife: Infielder Danny Blade went a perfect 3 for 3 with 1 RBI and a game-high 2 stolen bases for the victorious Detroit Arsenal RBI.

Mann Up: Detroit outfielder Steve Mann went 2 for 4, including driving in the tying run with a two-out double in the top of the 7th. He also stole third base and scored the winning run on an RBI single by Detroit clean-up hitter Blake Dunn.

Well Dunn: Speaking of Dunn, he went 2 for 4 with a game-high 2 RBIs.

Hard-Luck Pitching Effort: Harrisburg starting pitcher Dakota Quigley gave his team a chance to win, hurling five shut-out innings, surrendering only 3 hits and striking out 3 Detroit batters.

  1. Detroit PAL RBI vs. Harrisburg RBI

Breaking the Game Open: Harrisburg infielder Matthew Davis broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring triple. Davis also scored a run, walked and stole a base. Harrisburg never trailed after that.  

Shut-down arms: Harrisburg pitchers  Ricky Bettinger, Dakota Pentz and Sadiq Burkholder pitched a gem in the team's opening game, striking out eight Detroit batters and walking one. They didn't allow a baserunner past second base after the second inning. Burkholder also contributed on offense with two hits and one RBI.
