Red Sox place outfielder Daniel Nava on paternity leave list
Right-hander Brandon Workman recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today placed outfielder Daniel Nava on the paternity leave list. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Brandon Workman was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Workman will be active for tonight's game against the Astros in Houston.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Nava, 30, has hit .282 (94-for-333) with 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 53 RBI, 55 runs, and 39 walks. His .371 on-base percentage ranks second among American League outfielders and second among all qualifying major league switch-hitters.
This will mark the second major league stint for the 24-year-old Workman who was also with the club from July 9-31. He is 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA (8 ER/20.1 IP) in four games with Boston, including posting a 2.45 ERA (5 ER/18.1 IP) and 18 strikeouts in his three starts. Workman, who did not appear in a game with the PawSox after his July 31 option, has combined to go 8-2 with a 3.21 ERA (36 ER/101.0 IP), 30 walks, and 108 strikeouts in 17 games (16 starts) between Double-A Portland and Pawtucket this season.
