Padres select INF Ronny Cedeno from Single-A Lake Elsinore

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have selected infielder Ronny Cedeno from Single-A Lake Elsinore. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Cedeno, 30, was signed by the Padres to a minor league contract on August 2 and has played in two games for the club's California League affiliate in Lake Elsinore, going 1-for-8 (.125) with a double, a run scored and two walks.   In 51 games for the Houston Astros this season, the infielder hit .220 (31-for-141) with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored before being designated for assignment on July 22. A veteran of parts of nine Major League seasons with the Chicago Cubs (2005-08), Seattle Mariners (2009), Pittsburgh Pirates (2009-11), New York Mets (2012) and Astros (2013), the native of Venezuela has hit .245 (596-for-2433) with 114 doubles, 18 triples, 38 home runs, 230 RBI and 253 runs scored in 830 games played.

With today's transaction, the Padres currently have a full 40-man roster.
