Blue Jays promote Pillar, recall Kawasaki

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have selected the contract of OF KEVIN PILLAR and recalled SS MUNENORI KAWASAKI from Buffalo of the International League (AAA). OF COLBY RASMUS has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, retro-active to August 12th.

            PILLAR, 24, has batted a combined .307 with 39 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 57 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 123 games for New Hampshire and Buffalo this season. Since his June 21 promotion to the Bisons, the 6-0, 200 pound outfielder has more extra-base hits (27) than any player in AAA over that span (19-2B, 4-3B, 4 HR). The right-handed hitter has made 21 starts in LF, 20 in CF and 10 in RF for Buffalo.

            KAWASAKI, 32, returns to the Blue Jays for a 3rd time this season having batted .213 with a .319 OBP for the Blue Jays in 70 games. In 25 games with the Bisons has recorded a .260 average and a .400 OBP.

            RASMUS, 27, currently ranks 2nd among centerfielders in AL in doubles (26), home runs (18) and RBI (60) and is batting .273 this season.
