Yankees to auction off Opening Day Sandy Hook patch jerseys to benefit the Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Program

The New York Yankees announced today that 34 authenticated jerseys worn by every player and coach from this season's Opening Day at Yankee Stadium will be available in a live auction beginning on Friday, August 16 at noon at auction.mlb.com.

All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will benefit the Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Program.

On each pinstriped, home jersey is a patch located above the interlocking NY featuring the official seal of Newtown, Connecticut, along with a black memorial ribbon and 26 stars, signifying one for every victim, lining each side of the patch.

The auction will go live at auction.mlb.com beginning on Friday, August 16 at noon and end on Sunday, August 25 at 9:00 p.m.

The Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Program was setup by an act of the Connecticut legislature in response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It is administered by the Connecticut Judicial Branch, Office of Victim Services (OVS) and provides immediate financial help for emergency responders, medical and mental health professionals, and Sandy Hook Elementary School employees who suffered a mental or emotional impairment because of the Sandy Hook Elementary School crisis.
