Club transfers RHP Jason Marquis from the 15-day to the 60-day DL

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced that they have placed catcher Nick Hundley on the paternity leave list and have selected catcher Chris Robinson from Triple-A Tucson.  In addition, the club has transferred right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Hundley, 29, and his wife Amy, are expecting the birth of their first child.  In 82 games for the Padres this season, the catcher has hit .231 (61-for-264) with 14 doubles, a career-high tying nine home runs, 29 RBI and 27 runs scored.  Over 445 career Major League games, all with San Diego (2008-13), he has hit .237 (350-for-1476) with 77 doubles, 11 triples, 42 home runs, 177 RBI and 152 runs scored with 401 starts behind the plate, the fourth-most starts by a catcher in franchise history behind Terry Kennedy (762), Benito Santiago (740) and Fred Kendall (593).

Robinson, 29, is making his first career Major League stint.  In 29 games for Triple-A Tucson this year, he has hit .298 (28-for-94) with five doubles, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored after being acquired by the Padres from the Baltimore Orioles organization on June 20 in exchange for cash considerations.  In 29 games for Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization this season, Robinson hit .241 (26-for-108) with four double, five RBI and nine runs scored.  The right-handed hitter was originally signed as a third-round selection by the Detroit Tigers in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Illinois.  Over parts of nine professional seasons in the Tigers (2005-06), Chicago Cubs (2006-11), Orioles (2012-13) and Padres (2013) organizations, he has hit .275 (582-for-2120) with 121 doubles, seven triples, 12 home runs, 262 RBI and 212 runs scored in 624 games played.

Marquis, 34, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 21 and underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on July 30.  In 20 starts for the Padres this season, the right-hander posted a 9-5 record with a 4.05 ERA (53 ER, 117.2 IP) with 72 strikeouts against 68 walks, with the Padres 11-9 in his starts.
