Padres select OF Reymond Fuentes and recall RHP Anthony Bass from Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced that they have selected outfielder Reymond Fuentes and have recalled right-handed pitcher Anthony Bass from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned outfielder Jaff Decker and right-handed pitcher Brad Brach to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Fuentes, 22, is making his first career Major League stint. In 107 games total this season between Tucson and Double-A San Antonio, the outfielder has hit .330 (132-for-400) with 25 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 43 RBI, 73 runs scored, 35 stolen bases, a .413 on-base percentage and a .448 slugging percentage. He was hitting .418 (23-for-55) with six stolen bases in 14 games with Tucson and had a hit in all 13 games with an at bat. Acquired by the Padres from the Boston Red Sox as part of a five-player trade on December 6, 2010, the left-handed hitter was originally selected by the Red Sox in the first round (28th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. Over parts of five minor league seasons in the Red Sox (2009-10) and Padres (2011-13) organizations, he has hit .272 (518-for-1902) with 81 doubles, 22 triples, 21 home runs, 177 RBI, 285 runs scored and 162 stolen bases in 511 games played. The Puerto Rican, who played for the World team in the SiriusXM Futures Game this July, is the younger cousin of St. Louis Cardinals' outfielder Carlos Beltran.

Bass, 25, is making his third stint with the Padres, having made his second consecutive Opening Day roster for San Diego this season. The right-hander was previously recalled from Triple-A Tucson on June 22 and optioned back the following day. In 19 relief appearances for San Diego this season, he has posted a 4.28 ERA (16 ER, 33.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts against 13 walks. In 15 starts for Tucson this year, the right-hander has posted a 4-6 record with a 5.45 ERA (48 ER, 79.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts against 17 walks. Over his last five starts for Tucson, he has gone 2-2 with a 2.32 ERA (8 ER, 31.0 IP) and 22 strikeouts against six walks. 

Decker, 23, was previously recalled on August 10 for his third stint with the Padres this season. In 13 games total for San Diego this year, he has hit .154 (4-for-26) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, including his first Major League hit as a home run on August 12 at Colorado. In 100 games for Tucson this year, he has hit .293 (97-for-331) with 23 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 38 RBI and 60 runs scored. 

Brach, 27, was recalled on August 24 for his fourth stint with the Padres this season after making his second career Opening Day roster this year. In 26 relief appearances for San Diego, he is 1-0 with a 3.65 ERA (10 ER, 24.2 IP) and 24 strikeouts against 13 walks. Over 30 relief outings for Tucson, the right-hander has gone 3-3 with a 2.83 ERA (13 ER, 41.1 IP), three saves and 42 strikeouts against 14 walks. 

With today's transaction the Padres currently have 39 players on their 40-man roster
