Indians / Diamondbacks complete trade

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Acquired OF JASON KUBEL (#12) and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a player to named later or cash

Recalled LHP SCOTT BARNES from the AAA Columbus Clippers and placed him on the 60-day Disabled List with a left wrist sprain.

Kubel, 31, has spent the last two seasons with the Diamondbacks, hitting .220 (53-241) this year with 8 doubles, 5 home runs and 32 RBI in 89 games prior to being designated for assignment by Arizona on August 27th. Jason enjoyed a solid campaign in his first year with the D-Backs in 2012, hitting .253 (128-506) with 30 doubles, 30 home runs and a club-best 90 RBI in 141 games (.506SLG/.833OPS), finishing tied for 10th in the National League in home runs (30). He established new single-season career-bests in homers (team-high 30), walks (57), extra-base hits (64) & runs (75) while leading the National League in outfield assists (14).

The nine-year Major League veteran owns a career Major League batting average of .265 (875-3306) with 180 doubles, 139 home runs and 551 RBI in 983 games with the Minnesota Twins and Arizona since debuting in 2004. He finished tied for 8th in the American League with a career-high 103 RBI for the Twins in 2009. Kubel is signed thru 2013 with a mutual option for 2014.

The Indians will make a corresponding roster move on the 25-man roster upon Kubel reporting to the Major League club on Saturday.
