Cardinals add two to roster

Adron Chambers recalled and Tony Cruz activated off 15-day D.L.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled outfielder Adron Chambers from Memphis (AAA) and activated catcher Tony Cruz (left forearm) from the 15-day disabled list prior to today's series finale in Pittsburgh. 

Chambers, 26, had a prior stint with the Cardinals this season, appearing in 11 games (.167 BA; 2-for-12 with 1 RBI). He was batting .252 (84-for-333) with 8 home runs and 43 RBI at Memphis, stealing 16 bases. The left-handing hitting Chambers batted .354 with 4 homers and 16 RBI for the triple-A Redbirds in July. He has appeared in 70 games in the majors the past three seasons (2011-13), hitting a combined .230 (17-for-74) with three triples and nine RBI. He was also on the Cardinals postseason roster each of the past two seasons.

Cruz, 27, had appeared in 40 games this season before going on the D.L. on August 15. He was batting .212 with one home run and 11 RBI, but carries a .375 mark (9-for-24) with runners in scoring position.

Chambers wears uniform #56 and Cruz #48.
