Orioles make series of roster moves

Following yesterday's game, the Orioles made four roster moves, designating CA TAYLOR TEAGARDEN and minor league OF ERIC THAMES for assignment and selecting the contracts of CA CHRIS SNYDER from Triple-A Norfolk and RHP ERIC BEAULAC from Double-A Bowie. Beaulac was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a torn labrum in his right hip.

The Orioles this morning announced that they have recalled LHP WEI-YIN CHEN from Rookie-level Gulf Coast and CA STEVE CLEVENGER from Triple-A Norfolk.

Chen, 28, is 7-7 with a 3.76 ERA (105.1IP, 44ER) in 17 starts for the Orioles in 2013. He is scheduled to start today's game in New York.

Clevenger, 27, was acquired along with RHP SCOTT FELDMAN from the Chicago Cubs on July 2 in exchange for RHPs JAKE ARRIETA and PEDRO STROP. In 79 major league games with the Cubs, Clevenger batted .199/.262/.275 (42-211) with one homer and 16 RBI. In four minor league stops in the Cubs and Orioles organizations in 2013, Clevenger batted .327/.405/.453 (49-150) with four homers and 21 RBI in 43 games. The Baltimore native attended Mount St. Joseph's High School.

Snyder, 32, batted .118/.250/.118 (2-for-17) in six games for the Orioles earlier this season and is a .224/.328/.383 hitter with 77 home runs and 298 RBI in 712 major league games with Arizona, Pittsburgh, Houston and the Orioles.

Beaulac, 26, appeared in 12 games for Class-A Frederick and Double-A Bowie in 2013, going 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA (18.1IP, 4ER). In six minor league seasons in the Mets and Orioles organizations, Beaulac is 21-21 with a 3.40 ERA (365.1IP, 138ER) in 117 games (52 starts).

Teagarden, 29, batted .167/.180/.300 (10-60) with two homers and five RBI in 23 games for the Orioles in 2013.

Thames, 26, was acquired from Seattle on June 30 in exchange for minor league INF TY KELLY. Thames appeared in 97 games between Norfolk, Class-A Gulf Coast and Triple-A Tacoma (Mariners) and batted .285/.369/.436 (104-365) with 10 homers and 49 RBI.
