Chicago Cubs Announce Tentative 2014 Schedule

Club opens on Monday, March 31 at Pittsburgh; Home Opener Friday, April 4 vs. Philadelphia; Interleague play features six series vs. The A.L. East, including home-and-home series with the Yankees and trips to Boston and Toronto

Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2014 regular season schedule. The Cubs will open their 139th season on the road Monday, March 31 against the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 100th Anniversary season of Wrigley Field home opener taking place Friday, April 4 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Cubs will begin the 2014 campaign on the road for the second year in a row and for the 10th time in the last 13 seasons. The season also begins in Pittsburgh for the second-consecutive campaign, the first time the Cubs have opened in the same road city in back-to-back seasons since 2006-07 in Cincinnati. The Cubs open the season in the month of March for the first time since hosting the Milwaukee Brewers on March 31, 2008.

The Cubs host the Phillies for their home opener for the first time since 1990. The first homestand features six games covering two series against Philadelphia (three games, April 4-6) and Pittsburgh (April 8-10).

The 2014 schedule features eight interleague series, including the annual home-and-home sets against the Chicago White Sox. The Cubs and White Sox in 2014 will again play a total of four games, with the first two games taking place at Wrigley Field on May 5-6 immediately followed by two games at U.S. Cellular Field on May 7-8.

In addition to the White Sox series, the Cubs welcome three A.L. East opponents: the New York Yankees (two games, May 20-21), the Tampa Bay Rays (three games, August 8-10) and the Baltimore Orioles (three games, August 22-24). The Cubs make their first-ever regular-season visit to the new Yankee Stadium for a pair of games with New York on April 15-16. The Cubs also play a three-game series in Fenway Park (June 30-July 2) and three games in Toronto (September 8-10). The Cubs visit Boston for the first time since 2011 and visit Toronto for the first time since 2008.

The Cubs 2014 tentative schedule features three three-series homestands and four three-city road trips (after five three-city road trips in 2013 and two in 2012).

The Cubs are scheduled to host only one holiday game in 2014: Labor Day Monday, September 1 vs. Milwaukee. The Cubs will be on the road for four holidays next season: May 11 in Atlanta for Mother's Day, May 26 in San Francisco on Memorial Day, June 15 at Philadelphia on Father's Day and in Washington, D.C. for Fourth of July.

The tentative 2014 Chicago Cubs regular season schedule is attached. Please note that the schedule is subject to change at any time.
