Rangers Foundation Awards Grants For Youth Baseball & Softball Programs

Grant recipients will be honored during ceremony prior to tonight's game

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation today announced it has awarded grants to ten non-profit organizations in Texas and Louisiana to support youth baseball and softball programs.

The grant recipients will be honored during a pre-game ceremony prior to tonight's game with the Pittsburgh Pirates at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation instituted the Grant Program to 2012 as another means to promote the growth and development of youth baseball and softball. Since its creation in 1992, the Rangers Foundation has constructed 12 baseball fields and supported thousands of children playing for RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and Miracle League programs.

Seven grants were awarded in the first year of the program in 2012. For 2013, the ten grants total $80,000 in funds provided from the Rangers Foundation. Rangers pitchers Yu Darvish and Jason Frasor have assisted in donating funds for the grant program. Grant recipients are selected based on submissions from organizations within the team's five-state broadcasting region of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Organizations were asked to complete a proposal describing how funding from the grant would allow them to give youth in their area the opportunity to play either baseball or softball. The winners were selected based need and the ability of the proposed program to improve baseball programs in their local areas. Fox Sports Southwest helped to promote the grant program throughout the Rangers entire television territory.
