D-backs Name Bradley and Owings Organizational Pitcher and Player of the Year

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley (@ArchieBradley7) and infielder Chris Owings (@cowings5) the organization's Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively, according to D-backs' Director, Player Development Mike Bell.

"Chris Owings and Archie Bradley had exceptional seasons," said Bell. "Both Chris and Archie's stats are among the best in all of Minor League Baseball and their character is second to none. We are ecstatic to honor both players with Player Development's most prestigious awards. Many Minor League staff members spent valuable time with them to ensure that Chris and Archie develop into successful winning ball players in the near future."

Bradley, 21, went 14-5 with a 1.84 ERA (31 ER in 152.0 IP) with 2 complete games, 69 walks and 162 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .215 batting average (115-for-535) in 26 starts between Single-A Advanced Visalia and Double-A Mobile. Among D-backs Minor Leaguers, Bradley ranked first in wins, ERA and strikeouts. This season, he's been named as Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher, a 2013 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game participant, a Southern League midseason All-Star and Topps Pitcher of the Month for August while garnering Pitcher of the Week honors on three different occasions (California League: April 4-14, Southern League: May 13-19 and July 29-August 5). In 2 postseason starts for Mobile, Bradley went 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA (8 ER in 12.0 IP) with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts, guiding the BayBears to their third consecutive SL Championship appearance.

Owings, 22, hit .330 (180-for-546) with 31 doubles, 8 triples, 12 home runs, 81 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 104 runs scored in 125 games for Triple-A Reno. Among D-backs prospects, he ranked first in games, at-bats, batting average, hits and runs scored. He became the third player in Pacific Coast League history, and second straight Aces player, to earn Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year honors (also: Adam Eaton, 2012; Robb Quinlan, 2002). He was named to the 2013 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field and earned PCL mid-and postseason All-Star honors. Owings was named the D-backs organizational Player of the Month for April, May and June, becoming the first D-backs farmhand in club history to garner the award in three consecutive months.

BRADLEY SEASON NOTES

• Opened the season with Visalia and in his first 5 starts, went 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA (4 ER in 28.2 IP) while tying for the Minor League-lead with 43 strikeouts, averaging 13.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. He began the season with 17.2 scoreless innings and 20.2 homerless innings.

• Named California League Pitcher of the Week (April 4-14) with 11.2 scoreless innings, 7 hits and 9 strikeouts in 2 starts.

• On May 2, transferred to Mobile…in 21 starts, went 12-5 with a 1.97 ERA (27 ER in 123.1 IP) and .214 opponent batting average (93-for-434) with 59 walks and 119 strikeouts.

• In May, did not allow a home run, his 0.79 ERA ranked second in the Southern League and he recorded an 18.0-inning scoreless streak from May 2-24, while notching Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors (May 13-19).

• In August, went 6-0 with a 1.24 ERA (5 ER in 36.1 IP), .189 batting average (23-for-122) and 36 strikeouts in 6 starts, allowing 2 runs or less in each start…his 6 wins tied for the Minor League lead.

• He again notched Southern League Player of the Week honors (July 29-August 5). His 6 wins tied for the Minor League lead during the month while his 36 strikeouts were ninth-best in the Southern League over that span.

OWINGS SEASON NOTES

• In April, he hit .342 (40-for-117) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and 6 stolen bases in 26 games…led all Minor Leaguers in hits…recorded 13 multi-hit games, 3 six-game hit streaks and 3 runs in a game on 4 occasions.

• In May, hit .355 (44-for-124) with 6 doubles, 1 home run, 14 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 29 games…23-game streak from May 11-June 4 was good for longest streak in PCL and third-longest in club history (Jake Elmore-2012, 31 games; Tony Abreu-2011, 24 games).

• In June, hit .369 (45-for-122) with 9 doubles, 4 home runs, 25 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 28 games…45 hits tied for the most in all of professional baseball (Grant Green, Athletics) and became the first player in Reno's history to record 40 or more hits in three consecutive months (April-40, May-44).

• Had his contract selected by the D-backs and made his Major League debut vs. Blue Jays on September 3. In 15 games with the D-backs, Owings has notched 4 multi-hit games, batting .316 (12-for-38) with 3 doubles, 5 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 4 runs scored. He collected his first hit on September 7 at Giants and his first RBI on September 14 vs. Rockies.
