Rangers Re-Sign RHP Jason Frasor to One-Year Contract for 2014

The Texas Rangers today announced that right-handed pitcher Jason Frasor has signed a one-year contract for the 2014 season.

Frasor, 36, went 4-3 with a 2.57 ERA (14 ER/49.0 IP) in 61 appearances for Texas in 2013, his first season with the Rangers. Opponents hit a career-low .203, 16th-lowest among A.L. relievers and 3rd-lowest among Rangers behind only Joe Nathan (.162) and Neal Cotts (.180). Frasor ranked among team leaders in appearances (4th), holds (4th, 10), and relief innings (5th). He did not post the normal qualifying mark of 50.0 innings for relievers, but his 2.57 ERA and 1.143 WHIP this season were both his 2nd-lowest figures in any season in his career (2.50/1.023 in 2009). It was his 6th career season with at least 60 appearances.

Frasor compiled a 2.06 ERA (8 ER/35.0 IP) over his final 41 outings beginning with the start of June, the 13th-lowest figure among A.L. relievers (minimum 33.1 innings) in that span. Over a 10-year major league career, Frasor has gone 30-34 with a 3.67 ERA in 586 appearances, all in relief. His 586 appearances rank 10th among active right-handed pitchers who have yet to retire.

Frasor had originally signed a one-year contract with Texas on January 3, 2013. He had been eligible for free agency this offseason.
