Astros outright Crowe, De Leon
Both players can elect free agency
HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have outrighted outfielder Trevor Crowe and right-handed pitcher Jorge De Leon off the club's 40-man roster. Both players can elect free agency due to prior outrights. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Crowe, 29, played in 60 games across two stints for the Astros this season, making 40 starts in the outfield, including 16 starts in right field, 14 in left field and 10 in center field. He also appeared in 60 games for Triple A Oklahoma City in 2013, hitting .304 (72x237) with 16 stolen bases, seven doubles and 23 RBI. Crowe was originally signed as a minor league free agent by Houston on Nov. 20, 2012.
De Leon, 26, posted a 5.40 ERA (6ER/10IP) in 11 games across two stints for the Astros this season. He was one of 10 Astros pitchers to make their Major League debut this season, making his on Aug. 9 vs. TEX. The former minor league infielder converted to the mound in 2010 and has pitched the last four seasons in the Astros system. He was originally signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2006.
With the removals of Crowe and De Leon, the Astros 40-man roster is now at 36 players.
