Mariano Rivera to receive Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award

Rivera to be Honored Before Game 2 of World Series on Thursday

Major League Baseball today announced that Mariano Rivera will be honored by Commissioner Selig with the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award. The presentation will be made at a 7:00pm ET press conference on Thursday at Fenway Park prior to Game Two of the World Series on FOX.

Following the press conference, Rivera will be recognized on field as part of the pre-game ceremonies on FOX. Rivera will be joined at Fenway Park by his wife and three sons.

This will mark the first time that Major League Baseball has bestowed the Award -- which was created to recognize achievements and contributions of historical significance -- since Ken Griffey Jr. was honored in 2011.

Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday is scheduled for 8:07pm ET. FOX's live coverage begins at 7:30pm ET.
