Cardinals announce 2014 minor league field staffs player development & scouting department promotions

The St. Louis Cardinals today announced the coaching staffs for the 2014 season for their minor league affiliates in addition to promotions within the team's scouting department.

Only three managerial shifts occurred among the eight minor league affiliates, with two role changes:

Dann Bilardello will move from the Midwest League affiliate Peoria to the Florida State League affiliate in Palm Beach. Joe Kruzel, in his second managerial season, moves from Appalachian League entry Johnson City to Peoria. Johnny Rodriguez switches from Palm Beach to Johnson City.

Ron "Pop" Warner, Mike Shildt, Oliver Marmol, Steve Turco and Fray Peniche will return to their managerial posts carried over from 2013. Marmol led State College to the playoffs this season during the organization's return to the New York-Penn League.

Incumbents at the hitting coach, pitching coach and athletic training staff will all return to their posts from 2013, with one exception, Johnson City athletic trainer Tony Reyes moves from Johnson City to the Gulf Coast League.

Tim Leveque has been promoted to Pitching Coordinator, while Paul Davis will take on the role of Minor League Pitching Coach and Coordinator of Pitching Analytics in addition to his role as Johnson City pitching coach.

Mike Roberts, formerly the Midwest Cross-checker, has been named a Special Assistant to Amateur Scouting. Roberts is the longest tenured member of the Cardinals scouting department with over 30 years of experience in various amateur scouting capacities.

"Mike has been a mentor to many of us in the scouting department and is a very valuable resource for me during the draft," said Cardinals Scouting Director Dan Kantrovitz. "In his new role, Mike can broaden his reach both in terms of evaluating more players as well as spending time with more members of our staff."

Matt Swanson, formerly the Area Scout based out of Northern California, will fill Mike Roberts' old position and has been named Midwest Cross-checker for the 2014 season.

The Cardinals also announced the hiring of Patrick Casanta as a Baseball Development Analyst.
