Nelson Cruz declines qualifying offer from Rangers

Club will receive draft pick compensation if Cruz signs with another club

The Texas Rangers have been officially notified that free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz has declined the club's qualifying offer of a 2014 contract.

Cruz had until 4:00 p.m. CST today to accept or decline the Rangers 2014 qualifying offer. Texas may still negotiate with Cruz on a new contract, but the Rangers will gain an additional selection in the 2014 First Year Player Draft if he should sign with another team.
