Dodgers Hire Roy Clark as National Crosschecker
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced the hiring of Roy Clark as National Crosschecker. Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti made the announcement.
"We are pleased to bring in someone of Roy's experience and his strong track record of evaluating potential Major League players," said Colletti. "He has been an integral part of the success of Atlanta and Washington."
In his role with the Dodgers, Clark will be helping to scout amateur talent throughout the country as well as evaluating the club's current minor leaguers.
"Roy is an excellent talent evaluator and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Dodgers," said Dodger Vice President, Amateur Scouting Logan White. "He's a terrific addition and I'm looking forward to teaming him with Paul Fryer and John Green as National Crosscheckers."
Clark previously was the Nationals' Vice President of Player Personnel and oversaw the club's drafts from 2010-12, which included the selection of Bryce Harper with the first overall pick in 2010. In Washington, Clark was instrumental in overhauling the club's player development system, stocking the organization with talented prospects and earning the Nationals recognition from Baseball America as the best minor league system in baseball in 2012.
Prior to his time in Washington, Clark served as Atlanta's Director of Scouting for 11 seasons after initially joining the organization as an area scout in 1989. Clark was also the Braves' southeast supervisor (1995) and national supervisor (1996-99) during his 22-year tenure in Atlanta, where he helped draft future All-Stars Brian McCann, Adam Wainwright, Jason Heyward, Jason Marquis, Kevin Millwood, Craig Kimbrel and Freddie Freeman. Clark's efforts helped the Braves earn Baseball America's Organization of the Year Award three times (1991, 1996, 2005) and USA Today's Organization of the Year honor in 1996.
Clark got his start in baseball with the Mariners as a minor league coach (1984) and area scout (1985-86) and also worked for the Indians from 1988-89 as an area scout.
An infielder, Clark was selected by Seattle in the 24th round of the 1979 draft out of the University of North Carolina, where he earned All-ACC honors, and advanced as far as Triple-A in four professional seasons.
