A's Acquire LHP Fernando Abad from Washington

The Oakland Athletics have acquired left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor league outfielder John Wooten, the team announced today. The A's 40-man roster currently stands at 39 players.

Abad was 0-3 with a 3.35 ERA in 39 relief appearances for Washington in 2013. The 27-year-old native of the Dominican Republic walked just 10 batters, an average of 2.39 per nine innings, and surrendered just three home runs. His opponents had a .271 batting average, including a .247 mark against right-handed hitters. Abad was also 1-0 with a 1.06 ERA in 17 relief outings with Triple-A Syracuse.

Wooten batted .257 with 20 home runs and 69 RBI in 133 games with Single-A Beloit in 2013. He was selected by the A's in the 37th round of the 2012 draft.
