White Sox agree to terms on one-year contract with catcher Tyler Flowers

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $950,000 contract with catcher Tyler Flowers, avoiding arbitration.

Flowers, 27, hit .195 (50-256) with 10 home runs and 24 RBI over 84 games last season, his fifth in the White Sox organization. He underwent season-ending surgery on September 5 to debride his right rotator cuff and labrum.

Flowers homered on Opening Day vs. Kansas City, becoming the fourth player in major-league history to homer in a 1-0, season-opening victory.Additionally, the White Sox will not tender a 2014 contract to right-handed pitcher Dylan Axelrod.

Chicago has three remaining arbitration-eligible players: infielder Gordon Beckham and outfielders Alejandro De Aza and Dayan Viciedo.Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 38.
