Marlins sign three-time All-Star Rafael Furcal

MIAMI - The Marlins today announced the signing of infielder Rafael Furcal to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Furcal missed the 2013 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery, last appearing in an All-Star campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012. He appeared in 121 games for the Cardinals that season, batting .264 (126x477) with 18 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 49 RBI.

The 2000 National League Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star (2003, '10 & '12) owns a career average of .281 with 1,059 runs scored and 314 stolen bases. Despite missing the entire 2013 season, Furcal ranks 17th among active players in runs scored since 2000, while his stolen base total ranks sixth.

Furcal, 36, was signed by Atlanta as a non-drafted free agent in 1996 and has appeared in 1,605 career games with the Braves (2000-05), Dodgers (2006-11) and Cardinals (2011-12). Over his 14-year career, his teams have appeared in the postseason a total of 12 times.
