Yankees sign infielder/outfielder Kelly Johnson to a one-year contract

The New York Yankees today announced they have signed infielder/outfielder Kelly Johnson to a one-year contract extending through the 2014 season.

Johnson, 31, owns a .253 (926-for-3,664) career batting average with 540 runs, 191 doubles, 124 home runs and 442RBI in 1,051 games over eight Major League seasons with Atlanta (2005, '07-09), Arizona (2010-11), Toronto (2011-12) and Tampa Bay (2013).

In his career, Johnson has appeared in games at first base, second base, third base and in left field.

The left-handed batter hit .235 (86-for-366) with 41 runs, 12 doubles, 16 home runs and 52RBI in 118 games with the Rays in 2013.

The Austin, Tex., native was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (38th pick overall) of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
