Angels agree to terms with free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez

ANAHEIM - The Angels today announced the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez. Today's announcement was made by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

Ibanez, 41, posted a .242 (110/454) average with 29 home runs and 65 RBI in 124 games for the Mariners in 2013, marking the eighth time he has eclipsed the 20 home run plateau in his career. He connected for his 29th and final home run of the season on September 21 at Angel Stadium which marked the 300th homer of his career. With that home run, he tied Ted Williams (1960) for the most home runs in a season by a player age 40 or older.

"Raul's veteran presence and left-handed power bring greater balance to our lineup," said Dipoto. "In addition, we feel fortunate to add a player with a winning pedigree who possesses the character, work ethic and leadership that will provide an impact both on the field and off."

Originally selected by Seattle in the 36th round of the 1992 amateur draft, Ibanez owns a .276 (1993/7225) career average with 300 home runs and 1181 RBI. He has posted the highest batting average at Angel Stadium all-time (min. 150 AB) at .349 and is just seven hits shy of becoming the 18th active player with 2,000 career hits. With his addition to the roster, the Angels are now one of four teams in the Majors with two players on the roster with 300-or-more home runs (NYY - 4, CWS - 2, DET - 2). A native of New York, NY, he has played in at least 120 games in each of the last 12 seasons and has recorded at least 100 hits in 11 of those campaigns.
