2014 Seattle Mariners Caravan hits the road

Three-week tour across Pacific Northwest begins January 7

The 2014 Seattle Mariners Caravan hits the road on Tuesday, January 7, with the first stops in Pierce County at Lake Tapps and Gig Harbor. Over a three-week period (January 7-24), the Caravan will make stops in some two dozen communities across the Pacific Northwest from Portland to Vancouver, B.C., Longview to Spokane, and points in between.

At various stops on the Caravan, current and former Seattle Mariners players, announcers, and the Mariner Moose host assemblies for elementary school students, Boys & Girls Club members, and free public autograph and photo sessions.

Scheduled to appear on Week 1 are pitchers Danny Farquhar and Charlie Furbush, broadcaster Dave Sims and the Mariner Moose.

Day 1 stops include:

  • D.R.E.A.M. Team assembly for students at Dieringer Heights Elementary School (2-2:30pm, 21727 34th St. E., Lake Tapps)
  • Cheney Family Branch Boys & Girls Club (4:15-5:15pm, 8502 Skansie Ave., Gig Harbor)

Right-handed pitcher Danny Farquhar made his Mariners debut on May, 2013, recorded his first save on August 3 (vs. Baltimore), and ended the season as the Mariners closer. Beginning August 3, Farquhar recorded 16 saves, tied for third most in baseball.

Left-handed relief pitcher Charlie Furbush had a busy 2013, appearing in a team-high 71 games. He averaged 11.08 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched and held opponents to a .199 batting average.

In addition to the first day's stops, the first week of the Caravan includes Olympia, Tenino, Hillsboro, Oregon, and Longview/Kelso.

Also scheduled to appear on the Caravan during the three week tour are Nick Franklin, Brad Miller, James Paxton, Michael Saunders, Mike Blowers and Rick Rizzs.
