A's agree to terms with RHP Jesse Chavez on one-year contract

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez on a one-year contract for the 2014 season, the club announced today.

Chavez spent most of the 2013 season with the A's and was 2-4 with a save and a career-low 3.92 ERA in 35 games over two stints. He also logged career lows in opponents batting average (.230), on-base percentage (.302) and slugging percentage (.318) while striking out a career-high 55. The 30-year old right-hander also went 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts with Triple-A Sacramento. Chavez has a 5.48 ERA in 191 career games in six seasons with Pittsburgh (2008-09), Atlanta (2010), Kansas City (2010-11), Toronto (2012) and Oakland (2012-13).

Chavez was one of eight arbitration eligible players on the A's roster. The remaining seven include Craig Gentry, Luke Gregerson, John Jaso, Jim Johnson, Jed Lowrie, Brandon Moss and Josh Reddick.
