Indians invite of Nyjer Morgan to Major League camp

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent OF NYJER MORGAN to a Minor League Contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Morgan, 33, spent 2013 with the Yokohama DeNa BayStars of the Japanese Central League where he hit .294 (109-371) with 15 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs and 50RBI in 108 games. Prior to his stint in Japan he played six Major League seasons with Pittsburgh, Washington and Milwaukee, compiling a career mark of .280 (536-1912) with 73 2B, 27 3B, 11HR & 130 RBI in 583 games from 2007-12. He owns 117 career stolen bases and swiped a combined 76 bags in 2009-10, finishing second in the NL with 42 steals in 2009. The San Jose, CA native was Pittsburgh's 33rd round pick in the 2002 draft after a four-year junior hockey stint in Canada (1996-2000) and a two-year baseball stint at Walla Walla (WA) Community College.
