A's outright OF Corey Brown; Brown elects free agency

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's outrighted outfielder Corey Brown to Triple-A Sacramento and Brown elected to become a free agent, the club announced today. Brown was designated for assignment Jan. 22 when the A's signed Eric O'Flaherty.

Brown was acquired from Washington for cash considerations Dec. 19, 2013 after going 2-for-12 (.167) with a home run and RBI in 14 games during a September call-up with the Nationals. He spent the balance of the season with Triple-A Syracuse where he hit .254 with 19 home runs and 56 RBI in 107 games. Brown was originally drafted by the A's as a compensation pick following the first round of the 2007 draft and was traded to Washington as part of the Josh Willingham trade following the 2010 season.
