Mariners Agree to Terms with Logan Morrison

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik today announced that the club has agreed to terms with infielder/outfielder Logan Morrison on a contract for the 2014 season. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.     

By agreeing to terms with Morrison, the Mariners now have one remaining arbitration-eligible player, Justin Smoak.

Morrison, 26, hit .242 (71x293) with 32 runs, 13 doubles, 4 triples, 6 home runs and 36 RBI in 85 games last season after returning from the disabled list in June (right knee surgery). He appeared almost exclusively at first base, playing 79 games at first, starting 78. In parts of four Major League seasons, he has batted .249 (322x1295) with 159 runs scored, 73 runs, 16 triples, 42 home runs and 162 RBI in 363 games. He has appeared in 240 games in left field (238 starts) and 101 games at first base (95 starts).

The Mariners acquired Morrison from the Miami Marlins via trade on December 13, 2013 (in exchange for RHP Carter Capps). Morrison was originally selected by the Marlins in the 22nd round of the 2005 June Amateur Draft out of Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City. He attended Northshore High School in Slidell, La.
