D-backs agree to terms with Bronson Arroyo

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo on a two-year contract with a club option for 2016, according to D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.

Arroyo, who turns 37 on Feb. 24, went 14-12 with a 3.79 ERA (85 ER in 202.0 IP) in 32 starts with the Cincinnati Reds in 2013. He made at least 30 starts for the ninth straight season, tied for the second-longest active streak in baseball with Dan Haren, and tossed 200.0 innings or more for the eighth time during that span (199.0 IP in 2011).

Since 2005, Arroyo ranks among Major League leaders in starts (T-1st, 297), quality starts (3rd, 183), innings pitched (3rd, 1,895.2) and wins (6th, 119). He was named to the 2006 NL All-Star Team and won the NL Rawlings Gold Glove Award® in 2010.

Arroyo, who has never been on the Major League disabled list, has gone 138-127 with 15 complete games and a 4.19 ERA (1,061-for-2,278.2 IP) in 391 games (355 starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2000-02), Boston Red Sox (2003-05) and Reds (2006-13). In 8 seasons with Cincinnati, he was the club's nominee for both the Marvin Miller Man of the Year and Roberto Clemente Award in 2013, named the Most Outstanding Pitcher three times (2006, '09-10) and won the Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award on four occasions (2006, '09, '11-12).

Arroyo was drafted by the Pirates in the third round of the June 1995 free agent draft and claimed off waivers by the Red Sox on Feb. 4, 2003. He was then traded to the Reds, along with cash considerations, for outfielder Willy Mo Pena on March 20, 2006.
