A's to donate $63,055 to Phoenix city pools

Check Presentation Slated Prior to Phoenix Muni Opener Feb. 27

The Oakland Athletics will donate $63,055 to the City of Phoenix on Thursday, Feb. 27 when the team christens their home Cactus League schedule against the Milwaukee Brewers at Phoenix Municipal Stadium with a 1:05 p.m. MST game that will benefit Kool Kids, a program that provides free swimming at select city pools for youth ages 17 and under.

Hosted by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, the A's-Brewers game is billed as the 17th Annual ABC Charity Classic. The $63,055 donated at this year's event is money generated from the Athletics' 2012 charity game at Phoenix Muni. The A's and Brewers alternate the game each spring, with the home team donating all proceeds, minus expenses, from the game, including ticket sales, parking and concession revenue.

In pre-game ceremonies, A's manager Bob Melvin will make the check presentation to Phoenix Parks Chairperson Roger Peck, as well as present Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton with a special plaque thanking the City of Phoenix for its 33-year partnership with the Athletics which will end after this year when the team returns to Mesa for its spring training.

Tickets for the charity event are now available online at www.oaklandathletics.com/spring, by calling 1-877-493-2255 or visiting the Phoenix Muni Box Office.
