Yankees to open spring schedule at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:05 p.m. vs. Florida State University

FSU baseball features Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston; NCAA National Champion head football coach Jimbo Fisher to throw out first pitch

The New York Yankees will open their 2014 spring training schedule at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:05 p.m. vs. Florida State University, which features 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.

Additionally, Florida State Head Football Coach Jimbo Fisher is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Winston, who led the Seminoles to the 2013 NCAA Football Championship with a 34-31 victory over Auburn on January 6, 2014, also appeared in 41 overall games as a freshman on the baseball team in 2013, making 32 starts as a position player (20 in RF, two in LF and 10 as DH) and 17 relief appearances as a pitcher. He batted .235 (28-for-119) with 21 runs, 7 doubles, 3 triples, 9RBI, 22 walks and a .377 on-base percentage and went 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA and two saves (27.0IP, 9ER, 18H, 12BB, 21K, .176 opp. avg).

FSU has made 21 appearances in the College World Series and has been champion of their conference 17 times. Additionally, the school has finished atop the ACC Atlantic Division in each of the previous seven seasons (2007-13), completing the 2013 campaign with a 47-17 record. Through Friday's action, the club was 5-0 in 2014.

The team is led by Mike Martin, who is currently in his 35th season as head coach and ranks second among active collegiate coaches in career wins. Over his distinguished tenure, 85 of his players have earned All-America honors and seven have been named National Player of the Year.
